Overview

ABOUT TRIP

Namo Buddha is one of Nepal's most sacred and serene Buddhist pilgrimage destinations.Which is located at Kavrepalanchok District, Nepal 40–45 km southeast of Kathmandu. Its Altitude:1,750 meters (5,740 ft) above sea level.Namo Buddha is revered in Tibetan and Nepali Buddhism as the site of a profound act of compassion and self-sacrifice by one of the Buddha’s former incarnations.According to the Jataka Tales stories of the Buddha’s previous lives the Buddha, in a past life as Prince Mahasattva, encountered a starving tigress with her cubs which is Moved by great compassion, he gave his own body to feed the tigress, sacrificing himself. This Bodhisattva act exemplifies the path of ultimate compassion and selflessness the spot where he died is marked by a white stupa, which holds his relics.Namo Buddha Stupa is a small, peaceful white stupa built over the site of the prince's sacrifice.Pilgrims walk around it (performing kora), spinning prayer wheels and offering butter lamps.Surrounded by prayer flags and serene views. The Real Spot Located above the stupa, this is the exact site where the prince offered his body Contains a stone sculpture of the prince, the tigress, and her cubs a quiet, sacred place for prayer and reflection. The Two Tigress Cave Sites at Namo Buddha which is Located uphill from the Namo Buddha Stupa, this is the exact spot where Prince Mahasattva offered his flesh to sustain a starving tigress and her cubs.At the site, a carved stone relief depicts the prince, the tigress, and her cubs, offering a vivid artistic representation of the legend.Pilgrims walk up a ridge lined with prayer flags to reach this serene, forested area. The Second Summit – Tigress Den Marker A short trek from the first site leads to a second summit on the same ridge. There lies a small stupa or shrine marking the “den of the tigress.” Pilgrims lie on the ground in symbolic empathy and hang cloth or prayer flags from trees for blessings. The ridge trail connects stupa at the base, sacrifice shrine, and tigress den marker at the second summit. These two “tiger cave” locations together form the core of the legend’s geography and offer layered spiritual symbolism.Locally, the region is also referred to as Takmo Lujin, Tibetan for “Body?offering for the Tigress” And there is also another gumba called Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery This is the principal monastery at Namo Buddha, founded by the Very Venerable 9th Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche. It hosts over 250 monks, along with a monastic college, school for young monks, meditation center, Tibetan medical clinic, and guesthouse facilities.A smaller monastery or local temple situated just about 190?m west of the Namo Buddha stupa. Not part of the main monastic complex, but often referred to as a local spiritual center near the pilgrimage site.
