Overview

Hidden beyond the rain shadow of the Himalayas, Upper Mustang is a land unlike anywhere else in Nepal. Bordering the Tibetan Plateau to the north and flanked by Dolpo and Manang, this remote region—often called the Last Forbidden Kingdom offers a raw, otherworldly biking experience shaped by wind, stone, and centuries of isolation. This mountain biking journey begins in Kathmandu, travels through Pokhara, and ascends into the trans-Himalayan desert via Jomsom and Muktinath a sacred site revered by both Hindus and Buddhists.

From here, the real adventure begins. You ride through stark desert valleys, wind-sculpted cliffs, and ancient trade routes linking villages such as Chele, Syangboche, Charang, Lo Manthang, and Kagbeni. The terrain is dry, dramatic, and endlessly scenic—perfect for cycling, with long rideable sections, open jeep tracks, and technical trails that reward balance and control. This tour blends high-altitude mountain biking, pilgrimage, culture, and pure adventure. You pass ancient monasteries, mysterious cave dwellings carved into cliffs, and villages where Tibetan-influenced traditions remain untouched by time. Riding in Upper Mustang is not about speed alone it’s about immersion, endurance, and the rare privilege of exploring one of the Himalayas’ most restricted and mystical regions on two wheels.
