 Details Itinerary

  • Day 1: Drive from Kathmandu to Arughat Bazaar (550 m), Driving Duration: 8 to 9 hours. Today, we do a road trip from Kathmandu to Arughat. We first arrive at Dhading Bensi, the headquarters of Dhading, before embarking on a dirt road. The bumpy road is a scenic one as we take this route through the hills to Arughat. Arughat Bazar is a market town that spans to both sides of the Budhi Gandaki River.

  • Day 2: Trek from Arughat Bazar to Soti Khola (710 m), Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours. You leave Arughat and cross the Budhi Gandaki River on a suspension bridge. As you walk through farm fields, you head on a trail through the forests. You eventually arrive at Shyanta Bazaar walking through the field of rice and eventually enter a lush forest. From here, you get a great view of Shringi Himal (7061m). You ascend on stone-paved trails through suspension bridges and waterfalls crossing the villages of Arkhet and Kuerepani on the way. Next, you arrive at Soti Khola.

  • Day 3: Trek from Soti Khola to Machha Khola (887 m), Trek Duration: 4 hours. You head further upstream along the Budhi Gandaki River and witness its fierce rapids. You trek most of the way through rock formations, with streams winding around until you get back on the trails sandwiched in between rice fields. You will also cross two waterfalls on your way to the Gurung village of Lapubesi. From here, you walk down along riverbed before climbing to the village of Machha Khola.

  • Day 4: Trek from Machha Khola to Jagat (1340m), Trek Duration: 7 hours. The path from Machha Khola begins with an up and down trail. After crossing a stony ravine, you arrive at Khorlabesi. It is a small village situated amongst the wheat, buckwheat, and tobacco fields. From here, the climb up the valley is steep. You continue along the eastern side of the river and cross small settlements of Dobhan and Yaru Khola to climb up the rock steps of Tharo Bharyang until you arrive at Jagat.

  • Day 5: Jagat to Chisopani (1660m), Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours. From Jagat, firstly, we head along Budhi Gandaki River to Salleri and then carry on further to Sirdibas. The route to Ghatta Khola widens as you traverse down the picturesque valley. From here, you ascend to Philim, a mini valley that houses a modest police station and even a school. We witness the livelihoods of small Gurung communities as we walk past Philim to Chisopani.

  • Day 6: Chisopani to Chumling (2386m), Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours.Today, we will officially enter the Tsum Valley. The forest is dense with coniferous trees and Rhododendron trees scattered around. You will soon arrive at the village of Lokpa. Here, you get a wonderful view of the Himal Chuli and Boudha Mountain Ranges. About two and a half hour ahead is the village of Gumlung. The path to Gumlung winds around the hilly forest, while Chumling lies further away across Siyar Khola.

  • Day 7: Chumling to Chhokang Paro (3031m), Trek Duration: 4 to 5 hours. Today you will trek alongside Siyar Khola all the way to Chhokang Paro, which is a Tibetan-Buddhist settlement. From their clothing to their trading activities, everything in Chhokang Paro is a tribute to Tibetan culture in Nepal’s side of the border. The route passes through various ancient monasteries like Tanju and Rainjam monasteries. As you near the village, you get the view of Ganesh Himal (7422m) and the Tibetan Mountain Range further in the background.

  • Day 08: Chhokang Paro to the Nile (3361 m), Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours. Leaving Chhokang Paro, you trek to the Nile. On your way, you will see the Milarepa cave. The Buddhist saint, Milarepa, is believed to have meditated in the cave. Another attraction is the Chi Phu Gompa monastery engraved into the hillside. From afar, the monastery isn’t visible as it blends so well with the surroundings. You then, trek along the Siyar Khola until you arrive at the Nile.

  • Day 09:The Nile to Mu Gompa (3700m), Trek Duration: 3 hours. Today is a relatively shorter trekking day. You will cross a couple of suspension bridges, and pass villages of Sengum and Sho Syong to arrive at Mu Gompa. The trail itself is pleasant, a gradual ascent of around three hours through the dry lands with Chortens and Mani stones keeping you company. Mu Gompa is the largest Monastery in the region. The Gompa offers a great panoramic view of the mountains ahead.

  • Day 10: Sightseeing & Acclimatization at Mu Gompa (3700 m). Today, we explore and get acclimatized to the altitude. From Mu Gompa, we can walk out of the Tsum valley into Dephu Doma Gompa. This Gompa is around 600 years old and is an only 45-minute hike from Mu Gompa. We can also visit the monastery, Dhephu Doma Gompa. It is surrounded by grassy meadows all around. You may also take the other option of trekking to Pika Himal. From here, you get a view of the Himalayas bordering Tibet and Ganesh Himal.

  • Day 11: Mu Gompa to Burgi Village (2386 m), Trek Duration: 5 hours.Today, we get back down along the east bank of the Siyar Khola. You will retrace the same way you walked to Mu Gompa. The trek is mostly downhill so this trek will not be too difficult. After about five hours of walk, we reach Burgi village.

  • Day 12:Burgi village to Chumling (2386 m), Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours. You make your way back to Chhokang Paro and then back to Gho monastery for the second time. You enter back into the lower regions of Tsum arriving again at Chumling. You will walk past the smaller villages of Kowo and Tanju on the way. The trek initially will go downhill and go uphill for a while before doing downhill again to reach Chumling.

  • Day 13: Chumling to Philim (1570 m), Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours. Before we head to Philim, we arrive at Lokpa over level ground. The trek is pleasant but takes it easy on your knees. The trail is a mild descent over a long period. The village of Philim is a beautiful blend of different landscapes and the lifestyle of the villagers. It is a Gurung villager and is a viewpoint for Shringi Himal (7161m).

  • Day 14: Trek from Philim to Khorlabesi (970 m), Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours. We trek back along the same path we came but today we plan to stop by at Khorlabesi. We cross Sirdibas, Jagat, and Tatopani as we start to see more and more green vegetation around us. The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River and you descend most of the way while the last stretch of the trek is an up and down the trail.

  • Day 15:Trek from Khorlabesi to Soti Khola (700 m), Trek Duration: 6 to 7hours. Today is the last of our long days of descent. The overall descent is not much and the trek today should be fairly pleasant. We will pass Lapubesi and other Gurung villages on the way. The trail from Lapubesi is rocky for a while. The Budhi Gandaki flows below us as we cross the tropical forests arriving at Soti Khola.

  • Day 16:Trek from Soti Khola to Arughat (550 m), Trek Duration: 3 to 4 hours. We pass back through the now familiar sights of farmed terraces, cultivated hillsides, waterfalls and suspension bridges. The trek down back to Arughat is downhill and does not get very steep. We cross bigger villages and towns since our travel to the small settlements in higher altitude. At Arughat, we can celebrate the successful completion of the Tsum Valley Trek.

  • Day 17: Drive from Arughat Bazaar to Kathmandu, Drive Duration: 7 to 8 hours. We drive back the picturesque road through Gorkha and Dhading districts back to Kathmandu. We catch the last mountain glimpses of the trip as well as the last experience of the hilly terrain of Nepal. Your trip commences once you arrive in Kathmandu. Feel free to do some souvenir shopping in Kathmandu if you are not tired out by the trek.
