“You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so… get on your way!” – Dr. Seuss
The Annapurna Conservation Area includes some of the best views of the massive Himalayas and cultural jewels of Nepal, and the RABC — Round Annapurna Base Camp — is a three-week adventurous window to discover the beauty of the Annapurna Conservation Area, which includes some of the best views of the massive Himalayas and cultural jewels of Nepal while traveling through several climatic and ethical zones. The opportunity to encircle the Annapurna massif and see its various shapes from various angles, sometimes from far away viewpoints like Poon Hill or closer views from Manang or Annapurna Base Camp, is the main attraction of this trek, while the adventure of crossing the world's highest pass, the Thorang La pass (5416m / 17769 ft.), is unfathomable.
There is no doubt that trekking the Annapurna Circuit and Base Camp provides an excellent opportunity to experience the region's rich natural and cultural treasures, providing ample scenery of stunning high mountains, beautiful villages of various ethnic groups, picturesque green farmlands to arid barren terrain, numerous viewpoints, ever-flowing waterfalls, old ancient Buddhist monasteries, and reflections of people's archaic lifestyles while putting an ultimate thrill on the trek.
The trek to Annapurna Circuit and Base Camp begins with a journey from Kathmandu to Bhulbhule, and then continues via small villages and towns amid green lush foliage, listening to roaring rivers and cascading waterfalls as you make your way towards Manang valley. As you approach Manang, the vegetation and scenery will change dramatically, becoming more treeless and arid beneath a blue sky. We will acclimate in Manang by visiting glaciers and the Chongkor viewpoint, and then prepare for the challenging Thorang La Pass to explore Lower Mustang, which is home to several old Buddhist monasteries, awe-inspiring views of Mt. Dhaulagiri and Mt. Nilgiri, beautiful Kagbeni village, and the Holy Muktinath temple.
We'll take a short, bumpy bus/jeep ride along Mustang Road to Tatopani, where we'll relax in a natural hot spring before continuing on to Ghorepani, where we'll join the Annapurna Base Camp trekking path. We start early in the morning for one of the best sunrises and a stunning vista of the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu peaks, then descend to the Annapurna Sanctuary.
We'll restart our green, lush rhododendron forest walk after seeing the desolate landscapes of Mustang, passing past a spectacular sunset point and a Gurung town, till we reach treeless landscapes between Deurali and Annapurna Base Camp. Imagine the Annapurna Circuit trails on the opposite side of the gigantic Gangapurna and Annapurna massifs, with breathtaking sunset vistas. We're up early again to catch the sunrise, and the shimmering golden hues atop Mt. Annapurna (8091m) and the surrounding peaks take your breath away. We retrace our travels all the way to Choomrong village and soak in another natural Jhinu hot spring before heading to Pokhara.
