 About Trip 

Lumba Sumba La trek is one of the newly discovered trekking destinations in the eastern part of Nepal. The Lumba Sumba Pass lies between the two famous areas of Nepal, the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, and Makalu Barun National Park. The highest altitude, which the trekkers must reach while undertaking this trek is the Lumba Sumba Pass at an altitude of 5,177 meters above sea level. From most places throughout the trip, you can experience the biological diversities with the locality of different ethnic groups like the Tamangs, Gurungs, Rais, Limbus, Magars, and Newars following their indigenous cultures and traditions along with the Monasteries, Chortens, Temples and Prayer Wheels. You will also get to see the spectacular mountain views along with the majestic Lumba Sumba peak and Mountain lakes decorated with the mountainous landscape. Lumba Sumba trek area bears various kinds of wild floras and faunas including the endangered Snow Leopard and Red Panda.

  • Day 04:Trek to Chiruwa (1246 m), Hiking duration: 5 to 6 hours. .

 Details Itinerary

  •  Day 01:Arrival in Kathmandu (1400 m). After arriving in Kathmandu, our office representative will pick you up from the airport and will welcome, assist and transfer you to the hotel. In the afternoon, you may rest as you might be having Jet Lag and later on visit the Asian Heritage office to get more insights about your trek. Furthermore, you can stroll around the local streets of Thamel and explore the city.
    Accommodation: Overnight at Yatri Suites & Spa or similar in Kathmandu. 
     
  • Day 02: Flight from Kathmandu to Suketar via Nepalgunj, trek to Phungling (1830 m) Flight duration: 40 and 30 mins, Hiking duration: 1 to 2 hours. Have your breakfast in the morning before our vehicle comes to pick you up at the hotel. Our representative will transfer you to Kathmandu Airport to catch the flight to Bhadrapur. Make sure to get a right-sided seat in the plane since this side offers the view of the magnifying snow-clad mountains in the northeast. The flight will take you around 40 minutes to reach to Bhadrapur, from there you fly to Suketar on the same day, the second flight duration will be around 30 minutes. Once you reach Suketar, check out from the domestic airport and then you will start hiking to Phungling. Phungling hosts inhabitants of the mixed caste of Newar, Chhetri, Tamang, Brahmin and Sherpa and it is the headquarters of the Taplejung district. Explore the village and check in the lodge to have some rest.
     
  • Day 03:Trek to Mithlung (909 m), Hiking duration: 4 to 5 hours. After having breakfast, your trek starts from Phungling to Mithlung. Firstly, you will walk through the Sherpa village which is the gateway of this trek, after some decent walking you will pass through beautiful cardamom fields and Alnus trees (Uttis) until you reach the Hangdewa village development committee, which takes around two and half hours. On the way, there are small tea shops at Asangpati junction. From Panisar, the trek is downhill until you reach the suspension bridge that acts as a border between Hangdewa village development committee and Furumba village development committee. Walk for 10 minutes and you will reach Pawa Village (1546 m), where you will have your lunch. After lunch, the trek progresses along the bank of the Tamor River and descends all the way to Mithlung. Once you reach Mithlung, check in to the lodge and have some rest.
     
  • Day 04:Trek to Chiruwa (1246 m), Hiking duration: 5 to 6 hours. You will have your breakfast in Mithlung and start trekking towards Chiruwa. The trek passes along the banks of the Tamor River and offers a pleasant walk until you reach Furumba. From Furumba, the trail is uphill for half an hour before it descends through Ulnus and Schema Wallachian mixed forests to Siwa Bazar (950 m), located in the Linkhim village development committee. Siwa Bazar is a small market with facilities like a drug store, groceries, and a police station. After lunch, the trek runs along the Tamor River until Tawa village and then turns uphill to reach the Kanchanjunga Conservation Area Project entrance gate (1300 m) in Thiwa Village. From here, the trek will gradually descend down until Chiruwa. Chiruwa is a small market with a couple of lodges. After reaching Chiruwa you check-in the lodge and have some rest.
  • Day 05: Trek to Lelep (1687 m), Hiking duration: 5 to 6 hours. Have your breakfast and head towards your destination Lelep. While walking from Chiruwa to Lelep, you will start with walking along the bank of the Tamor River, this bank shows two big stones with religious significance. After walking around two and a half hours, from Chiruwa through beautiful cardamom gardens, you will reach Tapethok (1340 m) where you will have your lunch. It is a small market with some tea shops. After lunch, it is a pleasant walk until you reach Pembu (1486 m). From Pembu, you have to climb uphill to Lelep. After reaching Lelep, check-in to the lodge and have some rest.

  • Day 06:Trek to Ella Danda (2051 m), Hiking duration: 5 to 6 hours. After breakfast, you will start walking through a dense forest which is also the habitat of diverse wild flora and fauna. After continuing your hike downhill, you will reach the riverbank and cross a suspension bridge. Now you will ascend through a pine forest for half an hour to reach a monastery. From the monastery, you will descend down to reach Gowatar village and after walking some more time, you will reach a place that offers spectacular views of two waterfalls, which are about 100 meters tall. You will reach Phedi and after crossing the Tamor River, you will start walking uphill for about 45 minutes to reach a resting place known as Chautaroo in the local dialect. After resting for some time in Chautaroo, you will walk for 20 minutes to reach Ella Danda. Ella Danda offers a panoramic view of the Kasturi peak and the Tamor River. Check-in to the lodge and have some rest.

  • Day 07:Trek to Selep Kharka (2635 m), Hiking duration: 5 to 6 hours. Have your breakfast and get ready to start your hike from Ella Danda. The trail leads through a forest of Ulnus and Rhododendron for about an hour to reach a suspension bridge. After crossing the suspension bridge, the trek passes through dense bamboo groves. The place is popular among trekkers as it is the habitat of the Red Panda. If you're lucky, then you might catch a sight of the red panda from the trail. After a continuous walk of three and a half hours from Ella Danda, you will reach Maguwa, where you will have a short break for your lunch.  After finishing your lunch, you will continue your hike; the trail passes through maple and Ulnus forest. After walking for almost half an hour, you will reach SelepKharka. Check-in to the lodge and have some rest.

  • Day 08: Trek to Olangchung Gola (3208 m), Hiking duration: 3 to 4 hours. After your breakfast, you will start your trek to OlangchungGola from SelepKharka. Today your trail will lead you along the bank of the Tamor River to reach Jongim (2641m), a flat land surrounded by snow-capped hills after an hour walking. From Jongim, you will descend down to the river bank, cross the suspension bridge and again ascend to Ramite (2685m) for lunch. At Ramite, you can see a mixed forest of Deodar and rhododendron along with the beautiful view of the waterfall. You will see the first glimpse of OlangchungGola after a walk of around 45 minutes and finally, you will reach OlangchungGola. OlangchungGola is a beautiful Sherpa settlement where you can see a 465 years old monastery with golden manuscript, explore the monastery and the surroundings and check in to the lodge to have some rest.

  • Day 09: Trek to Sanjung Kharka Camp (3910 m), Hiking duration: 5 to 6 hours.  After having breakfast in OlangchungGola, you will commence walking through the complete wilderness to reach Upper Langmale. Along the way, piles of stones act as signs, showing you the right direction to your next destination, SanjungKharka. The trek passes through pine and rhododendron forests. After some decent hiking for two and half hours, you will reach a place called Jadak (3636 m) for your lunch break. After having lunch in Jadak, you will continue walking for about 3 hours to reach today's final destination; Upper Langmale (3893 m).

  • Day10: Trek to Pass Camp (4747 m), Hiking duration: 6 to 7 hours. After having breakfast, today's path will lead you along the bank of the Tamor River; on the other side of the river you can see a dense forest of rhododendron. If the fortune favors you, then there is a high chance of seeing a Snow Leopard on this trail. After hiking for three hours, you will reach Tangchetar (4203 m) for your lunch and a short break. After your lunch you will continue hiking for around three more hours to reach your final destination; Pass Camp.

  • Day11: Trek to Chauri kharka (4595 m) via Lumba Sumba La (5200 m), Hiking duration: 8 to 9 hours. Today is the most difficult, yet most memorable day of this trek. You will pass through the Lumba Sumba Peak with climbing up and again walk down. It is better to bring a packed lunch, as there are no good camping sites around. After walking for about four and half hours from pass camp, you will climb the Lumba Sumba Peak and descend down to Chaurikharka for tonight's stay.
     
  • Day12: Trek to Thudam (3500 m), Hiking duration: 6 to 7 hours.  After breakfast, you start hiking from ChauriKharka. The trek leads you all the way downhill from Chaurikharka. Today, you will come back to a Human settlement after a tiring walk for three days. After walking for about three and half hours, you will arrive at a place where you will see two routes. One leads to Lhasa in Tibet and another leads toward Thudam. You will have your lunch at this place. From here you will continue your hike for another three hours to reach Thudam. Thudam is a small village with around 30 houses of Sherpa people. Check-in to the lodge and rest for a while, if you're interested then you can explore the village area later on.
     
  • Day13:Trek to Kharka (2877 m), Hiking duration: 6 hours. After your breakfast, get ready to hike towards your next destination; Kharka. Today, your trek starts along the banks of ChujungKhola. The trail offers a panoramic view of multiple peaks in the Makalu range. On the way, you can see small bushes and bamboo groves, which is the favorite habitat for the red panda. If you are lucky enough then you can witness this endangered species on this route. It is better to carry a packed lunch with drinking water, as it is difficult to find drinking water along the trail. After hiking for six hours from Thudam, you will reach Kharka, where you will stay for the night.
  • Day14:Trek to Chyamtang (2229 m), Hiking duration: 5 to 6 hours. From Chyamtang, the trail passes through a dense rhododendron forest. You will not find any villages along the way. After walking for three hours, you will reach a place called Chaurikharkaa where you will have your lunch. From Chaurikharka, you can see Chyamtang, Arun River, Ridha Village and the trail that leads to Kimathanka. From here, the trek is all downhill for about three hours until you reach the Arun River. After crossing the suspension bridge over the river, you again have to ascend uphill for about an hour until Chyamthang. Your destination for the day. Chyamthang is a small village where Sherpa people are the dominant population. Check in to the lodge and have some rest, later on you can explore the village if you're interested.

  • Day15: Trek to Hatiya (1595 m), Hiking duration: 6 to 7 hours.  After having breakfast in the camp, you will start walking for Hatiya. The trail is easy and passes through rhododendron forests in the Arun valley, which is home to several bird species. Hike for about two and a half hours from Chyamthang and the trail takes us to Glimber Village (1585 m), where you will have your lunch. The Village offers a spectacular view of snowcapped peaks in the Makalu range. From Gimber, the walk is easy and after hiking for about three hours you will reach Hatiya. Hatiya is a small village of Bhote people and is the entry point to the Makalu National Park. After reaching your camping place, have some rest in your camp and later on explore the area.

  • Day16: Trek to Gola (1128 m), Hiking duration: 5 to 6 hours. After having breakfast, you will start trekking along the bank of the Arun River for about two and a half hours to reach the confluence of the Arun and Barun rivers. Over here you will have your lunch, after having your lunch and a short break you will start ascending towards Gola. A walk of around two and half hours. Gola is a very small village with 12 houses. Sherpa, Rai and Tamang people reside here. It is a typical village where you can observe the native people following the old lifestyle; explore the village and later on rest in your tent.

  • Day17: Trek to Hedangna Gadhi (1179 m), Hiking duration: 5 to 6 hours. Have your breakfast and start trekking through paddy fields, which denotes that you are now in the lowlands. You will descend and ascend for several times. After two and half hours of hiking, you will reach Pathibhara (1524 m). Here you will have a short break and your lunch as well. Pathibhara is a small Gurung village with tea shops, groceries, and some hotels. The trail after lunch passes through agricultural land before you reach Gadhi (1800 m), you can find plenty of water sources and small settlements along the way. It will take around three hours to reach Gadhi from Pathibhara. Gadhi is a place of great historical significance as the Nepali Army fought bravely against the invading Tibetan Army at this place and chased them away. Gadi is a small village market with a health post, a school, and a police station.

  • Day18:Short trek to Num and drive to Khandbari (1020 m) Hiking duration: 3 to 4 hours, Driving duration: 4 to 5 hours. Have your breakfast and start trekking through paddy fields, which denotes that you are now in the lowlands. You will descend and ascend for several times. After two and half hours of hiking, you will reach Pathibhara (1524 m). Here you will have a short break and your lunch as well. Gadi is a small village market with a health post, a school, and a police station.

  • Day19: Flight to Kathmandu from Tumlingtar, Flight duration: 35 mins. After breakfast, pack your bags and you will be transferred to Tumlingtar airport to catch the flight to Kathmandu. Make sure to get a seat on the left side in the plane while flying back to Kathmandu, from the left side you will be able to view the majestic mountains standing tall from north to east with the shining snowcaps. Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our office representative will come to receive and assist you and they will transfer you to the Hotel. After reaching the hotel, check in and have some rest for a while. Later in the afternoon, you can visit the Asian Heritage office to share your trekking experiences and you can stroll around the streets of Thamel other nearby places.
